Duties:
TOUR OF DUTY: 3:30 p.m. - Midnight (Rotating Weekends)
This position is located on the Inpati! ent Telemetry Unit. The Nursing Assistant provides technical nursing care to adult and geriatric patients according to a plan of care established by a Registered Nurse. The Nursing Assistant reports to the Registered Nurse who is responsible for the assigned patient's care. The incumbent performs basic nursing care according to standards of care, policies and procedures including but not limited to: oral hygiene, takes vital signs, measures input/output, bathing, shaving, hair care, eye care, and detection and initiation of care to prevent decubitus formation.
The Nursing Assistant ion the Inpatient Telemetry Unit applies knowledge of appliances and mechanical devices used in rehabilitation; assists the patient in accomplishing ADLs and rehabilitation; performs basic procedures for accomplishing the patient requirements for nutrition; reports to the Registered Nurse significant observations concerning the patient's conditions related to changes in vital signs, level of ! consciousness or mental status; and maintains complete and acc! urate records on appropriate forms for all assigned patients.
Preferred Experience : One year experience on an inpatient unit and CNA certification preferred.
Physical Requirements : This position requires Heavy Lifting, 45 pounds& over; heavy carrying, 45 pounds & over; straight pulling (4 hours); pushing (4 hours); use of fingers; both hands required; walking & standing 8-12 hours; repeated bending 8 hours; both legs required; ability for rapid mental & muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable @ 13Â" to 16Â" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; depth perception; ability to distinguish shades of colors; hearing (aide permitted). Transferring patients and objects may be required. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures. The incumbent may occas! ionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs.
Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
For GS-5, applicants must possess one year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-4 level. Additionally, a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelorÂ's degree with courses related to the occupation may be qualifying. Specialized Experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the position of Nursing Assistant. Qualifying specialized experience may include non-professional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home or other medical, nursing or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing duties such as: providing personal nursing care such as providing pre and post-operative care! , support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures such! as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus, caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording and reporting changes in their behavior and providing reassurance and encouragement, assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities.
