Remote Work:

This is a hybrid position where you will be required to work at our WestJet Campus in Calgary 3 days /week.


The Advisor – Business Continuity is responsible for being a consultative advisor within the team the role reports, supporting the various initiatives that are key to delivering value to WestJet.



The Advisor will work collaboratively with various business units and stakeholders to provide analysis and project management in efforts to ensure the continuity of essential business functions at WestJet, minimize adverse financial and reputational impacts and create resiliency strategies to reduce the likelihood and impact of organizational threats.


Key deliverables / responsibilities include:
• Facilitate consultative support to all WestJet business units in strengthening their resiliency and Business Continuity capabilities
  • Contribute to cross-functional initiatives by supporting the development of elements of WestJet's Business Continuity program, including managing processes, tools, and templates to support the program
  • Assist in conducting customized exercises to evaluate preparedness levels and recovery capabilities of response plans including analysis and compiling documentation from all related test events
  • Contribute to updating governance processes, policies, operating standards, templates and other documents related to corporate Business Continuity
  • Stay current on international and industry specific BC trends, standards, best practices and provide recommendations for continuous improvement around WestJet's Business Continuity strategy
  • Review existing people, facility, and vendor recovery processes to ensure resilience levels are aligned with business needs, best practices and enterprise risk / audit expectations
  • Responsible for maintaining up-to-date Business Continuity related system documentation in a continuously changing and evolving environment
  • Collaborate and support initiatives with Enterprise Risk, Audit and Advisory Services, IT Disaster Recovery, Emergency Response and Business Recovery.
  • Contribute to developing a corporate culture of Business Continuity awareness and preparedness
  • Delivery of sprint work items identified as priority within timelines
  • Participation in relevant audits if required
  • Requirement to be part of an on-call rotation as needed


Experience and qualifications:
  • Preferred degree in a related Technical, Business or Science field
  • 3+ years experience in a Business Continuity focused role, preferably within a large customer facing organization.
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to manage multiple items
  • Strong understanding of industry standards and best practices for Business Continuity Management, Risk Management, Emergency Response or Crisis Management
  • Willingness to continue learning and developing skills and expertise
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to convey complex strategies and plans
  • Comfortable and confident with online and in-person interactions
  • Ability to remain calm under unexpected circumstances / incidents with time critical pressures
  • Excellent team player, collaborative, passionate, enthusiastic
