Job Summary The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery has an opening for an experienced, self-motivated, team orientated medical assistant. This position will primarily be assigned to one or two sub-specialities and provide back-up/cross coverage to other sub-specialty services within the adult orthopaedic program/MSK programs located within the Taubman Health Center. Responsibilities* Duties include, but not limited to, general medical assisting duties, greeting, escorting and obtaining required documentation in MiChart, removal of staples, sutures and provide wound care. Set up injections for the joint service. Prepare exam rooms between patients, stocking necessary supplies and forms as needed. This position will be responsible to monitor the patient lounge and communicate clinic status frequently with patients that have been waiting. In addition, this position will monitor clinic throughput on a continual basis, determining and resolving cause of delays with a goal of optimal clinic flow. This position will be on the move constantly between the various locations in clinic, ie., patient lounge, exam rooms, nursing office and staff rooms. The successful candidate may need to retrieve prior medical history, print x-rays or other pertinent information for providers, image outside records into the electronic medical record, and prepare history and physical booklets. Utilize exceptional communication skills to respond to challenging situations. Maintain M-learning compliance, specific procedure competencies, knowledge of regulatory agency requirements and clinic emergency procedures.
Actively participate in the department?s lien initiatives and service excellence programs. Serve as a role model for exemplary customer service. Demonstrate an excellent work ethic, adherence to start, break and lunch times, adherence to proper utilization of internet usage, etc. Attend staff meetings to reach departmental goals and resolve issues.
Complete other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications* Applicants must possess a medical assistant certificate and have a minimum of 2 years of experience in an ambulatory care medical office. The successful candidate will have demonstrated, superior customer service, an exemplary attendance record, strong interpersonal communication skills, the ability to manage stress effectively and handle multiple responsibilities in a very busy clinic. The selected candidate will have passed the University?s pre-employment screening requirements. Work Schedule Hours: 8:00 - 4:30 M-F Additional Information
Supervision Received:
This position will have functional supervision by the Medical Assistant Specialist as well as the clinic nurses. Administrative /direct supervision is provided by the Clinic Manager.
