We are seeking an Infection Control Coordinator for our Grand Rapids / Muskegon / Holland area location. We a! re a not-for-profit organization providing a varied range of services and care levels designed to meet the individual needs of children to adults.
Summary:
The Infection Control Coordinator monitors, evaluates, and eliminates infection control risks for all hospital patients and staff wherever possible. This role plays an integral part in quality patient care.
Implements current standards and seeks expected outcomes for Infection Control practices, and ensures compliance to regulatory agency standards.
Work closely with Infectious Disease physicians and all clinical service leaders, department directors, Medical and Executive Staff.
Investigates and monitors known or potential sources of suspected infections in order to determine sources and ensure control.
Demonstrates knowledge of standard methods and criteria for identifying nosocomial infections.
Instructs and counsels patients and staff on infection contr! ol issues and concerns.
Collaborates with other membe! rs of the team to follow up on exposure incidents.
Participates in multidisciplinary teams providing input regarding treatment plans.
Maintains related data, prepares and submits reports.
Utilizes computerized documentation systems to access relevant patient data.
Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patient in performance of duties and responsibilities.
Orients and mentors new staff members.
Establishing, instituting and maintaining an effective system for evaluation and reporting infections in patients.
Arranges special teaching session to the staff and even for specific group of patients pertaining to the infection control and prevention
Collect data of patients with infections that require isolation precaution and use of specific antibiotics. (e.g.; MRSA, C.diff, etc.)
Conduct clinical audit to make sure that, the high standard of care in place in relation to the infection control an! d prevention.
Update his/ her knowledge by participating in the clinical governance meeting.
Education:
Bachelor's of Science in Nursing
Masters in Nursing, Public Health or health care related field preferred
Certification / Licensure:
Current Michigan Registered Nurse License and/or other licensure as applicable
Certification Infection Control (CIC) is highly preferred
Experience:
3-5 years clinical/acute care nursing experience
3 years previous experience as an Infection Control Nurse
Special Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills required due to frequent speaking in person and on the phone
Knowledge of laws, regulations and standards related to hospital infection control
Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment
Must be available to acco! mmodate the needs of the team and be available during emergency situati! ons
Basic computer skills
