Location: Saginaw, Michigan

The Preadmission Testing RN prepares the patient/family/significant other physically, psychologically, socioculturally, and spiritually for their Surgical/I&D Procedure. Interviewing techniques are used to identify potential or actu al problems that may result. Education and interventions are initiated to optimize positive outcomes. This individual must have strong critical thinking skills to make independent decisions. The RN must possess excellent computer and organizational skills. This individual interprets laboratory and diagnostic testing independently. The RN orders appropriate testing based on the patient’s health history, previous surgeries, medications, allergies, physical limitations, & medical prosthesis/implants. This individual works under the supervision of the Manager/Coordinator.

Responsibilities:
Knowledge of nursing processes and experience in health care environment.
Excellent test interpretation skills.
Proficient in Windows environment.
Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient as identified within the organization.
Functions with an awareness and application of safely as identified within the organization.
Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care, unit function and strives to manage situation in a reduced-risk manner.
Ability to communicate positively with patients to obtain a detailed and accurate patient history in a timely manner.
Pleasant and friendly voice tone.
Documents patient data to ensure continuity in the provision and coordination of patient care.
Effectively communicates patient care needs/expectations/priorities with team members.
Acts as resource/educator for team members.
Collaborates effectively with all health care disciplines to facilitate patient outcomes.
Documents on all hospital and department records as required.
Serves as mentor for other nurses.
Performs departmental projects as required.
Attends and participates in unit meetings.
Adhere to unit/department policies, procedures, and unit structure standards.
Functions as a responsible team member.
Maintains confidentiality in relation to patients, families, and the organization.
Appropriately represents Covenant HealthCare by promoting a positive image to the departments, medical staff, leadership and outside constituents
Maintains professional standards by actively participating in continuing education activities, patient outcome activities, and in-services related to area of practice and age(s) of patient population
Demonstrates excellent customer service in attitude and actions at all times consistent with the Code of Conduct.
Contributes to organization success targets for patient satisfaction and net operating margin
Demonstrates commitment to the quality philosophy and values of Covenant by maintaining established policies and procedures; organizational objectives; continuous quality improvement; quality assessment and safety standards
Ensures all duties are performed in a courteous manner

Other information:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Nursing Degree (ADN, Diploma, BSN) from an accredited school of nursing.
License to practice professional nursing (RN) in the State of Michigan.
BLS Required
Previous acute care and unit specific experience preferred, but not required.
Recent experience in care of the surgical patient

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Demonstrates appropriate care for the following age groups: Infant (30 days â€" 1 year), Pediatric (1-2), Adolescent (13-18 years), Adult ( 19-64 years), and Geriatric (65+ years).
Strong pharmacology background.
Strong physiology background.
Excellent computer skills
Demonstrates interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, and co-workers.
Demonstrates an awareness of and assumes self-responsibility for working within the scope of the Registered Nurse role.
Demonstrates ability to remain calm during high volume and crisis situations.
Demonstrates the ability to problem-solve and prioritize unit needs independently, efficiently, and effectively.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to maintain punctual attendance consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
Constant sitting, talking, hearing, near vision, midrange vision, visual accommodation, color vision, and field of vision
Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs.
Frequent walking
Occasional standing, feeling, tasting, smelling, far vision, and depth perception
