The Nurse Clinician will function as a member of the Nutritional Support Service. This service is comprised of 2.5FTE Nurse Clinicians and 1 FTE Pharmacist Specialist. The Nutritional Support Service responds to consults for initiation and monitoring of total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and the placement of enteral feeding tubes using the Cortrak system. Personnel on the Nutritional Support Service evaluate patients for TPN appropriateness, assess initial feeding requirements, monitor patients receiving TPN, and adjust the TPN orders as needed based upon patient response. Nurse Clinicians on the service will evaluate patients for feeding tube placement and subsequently place enteral feeding tubes. Other responsibilities include nutrition support team rounds, precepting, and participation in the corporate nutrition support committee.
General Requirements: BSN, RN License/ The Nurse Clinician on the Nutritional Support Service must have ICU nursing experience. Experience with nasogastric feeding tube placement is preferred. In addition, strong critical thinking and decision-making skills are required.- .
