Background and-or Security Investigation required DUTIES:
These positions are located in the Community Living Center, Patient Care Service of the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center. The Nursing Assistant performs a variety of personal care or nursing care activities which do not require practical or vocational nursing licensure; assist doctors and nurses in the performance of diagnostic examinations by performing duties such as: monitoring vital signs, preparing and positioning the patient, or by performing a variety of routine diagnostic tests; assist physician and nurses in the care and treatment of the ill receiving medical, sur! gical, psychiatric or outpatient treatment; follow designated charting technique to post patients' charts that provides a daily outline or summary of the patient's care; perform a variety of duties aimed at increasing comfort and spirit of the patient.
Work Schedule: 2 Positions: 3:30 pm - 12 (MN), with rotating days and weekends
1 Position: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, with rotating days and weekends
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Preferred Experience: Certification as a Nursing Assistant is preferred.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
GS-05: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 OR 4 years of education ! above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses directly ! related to the occupation. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the position of Nursing Assistant. Qualifying specialized experience may include non-professional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home or other medical nursing or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing duties such as: providing personal nursing care such as providing pre and post operative care, support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus, caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording and reporting changes in their behavior and providing reassurance and encouragement.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military serv! ice. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which! they earn annual leave.
